The fund is managed by six trustees – three elected from the general membership and three who are members of the NSW AJA section of the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance Federal Council. All trustees work on a voluntary basis.

People in need of assistance are usually brought to the attention of the trustees by MEAA industrial staff or members.

Individuals may also bring their cases to the attention of the trustees directly.

The trustees then investigate the financial and other circumstances to determine what sort of assistance might be needed. All information provided to the trustees is strictly confidential.
